Palestine: Al-Aqsa MosqueZionist occupation police banned on Wednesday Palestinian worshippers from entering the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound amid violent attacks erupted in East Jerusalem's Old City between Palestinian youths and Zionist occupation troops.

Zionist security personnel also assaulted hundreds of Palestinian worshippers at the Old City's Asbat Gate, witnesses added.

The violence broke out as dozens of Palestinians gathered to protest the Zionist restrictions on worshippers seeking to enter the holy mosque compound.

In response, Palestinians – inside and outside the compound – began chanting against the Zionist occupation, which - in turn - attacked the protesting Palestinians, the witnesses said.

Earlier in the day, a group of Jewish settlers backed by Israeli police stormed the mosque compound.

The Zionist police had imposed restrictions on the entry of Palestinian Muslim worshippers into the compound, barring men under 50 from entering the site.

The intrusion came on the last day of Sukkot, a weeklong Jewish festival during which extremist groups had called for storming the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound.

The invitation prompted Palestinian groups, too, to call on Muslims to converge on the site.
