According to the newspaper, the Zionist minister promised the Gush Etzion Regional Council to legalize the status of Tekoa V and approve the building of 24 new settlements and a new farm if settlers vacate Ramat Hashlosha.

Both Jewish settlement outposts were erected in July in what the Gush Etzion Regional Council had described as a response to the kidnapping and murder of three young Jewish settlers in June.

Haaretz said that at least four settler families had moved into old trailer homes in Tekoa V, prompting protests by local Palestinians demanding their land back.

Under international law, the West Bank and East Jerusalem are territories occupied by the Zionist entity and any Jewish settlement building, whether legalized by the Zionist government or not, remains as illegitimate.

Palestinian negotiators link the resumption of stalled peace talks with the Zionist entity to a complete freeze of any Jewish settlement building on their occupied land.

Palestinians demand that all Jewish settlements in the West Bank evacuated under any comprehensive peace agreement with the occupation authorities.
